Aldosterone Left Adrenal Vein
Also known as: ALDO LAV
Use
The Aldosterone Left Adrenal Vein test is used to investigate primary and secondary aldosteronism and distinguish between bilateral idiopathic hyperaldosteronism (IHA) and aldosterone-producing adenomas (APA). This test is particularly significant in understanding the underlying causes of conditions like hyperaldosteronism, which affects blood pressure regulation due to excess production of the hormone aldosterone by the adrenal glands.
Special Instructions
Adrenal venous sampling procedure is required. Specific attention should be paid to patient preparation and specimen collection. Refer to the Endocrine Society recommendations for details on medications for hypertension control during confirmatory testing for primary aldosteronism.
Limitations
Potential factors that may lead to false-positive or false-negative aldosterone-renin ratio (ARR) results include improper patient preparation and uncontrolled hypertension. It is crucial to follow all preparation and collection recommendations to ensure the validity of the results.
