Allergen, Epidermals and Animal Proteins, Chicken Feathers
Also known as: CHICKFEATH
Use
This test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies to chicken feathers using a quantitative ImmunoCAP fluorescent enzyme immunoassay. Testing can aid in the diagnosis of allergic diseases associated with exposure to chicken feathers, particularly in patients presenting with symptoms of allergic rhinitis, asthma, or other allergic conditions. Clinical correlation with patient history and physical findings is essential, as specific IgE levels do not directly indicate the severity of allergic reactions.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure consistent test results. It is recommended to refer to the 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' for detailed guidance on multiple allergen orders.
Limitations
Allergen results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and require interpretation by a specialist. High concentrations of allergen-specific IgE do not always relate to the severity of clinical response or correlate with skin testing outcomes. Negative results do not definitively rule out clinical allergy or anaphylactic response, highlighting the importance of considering the complete clinical context.
