Allergen, Epidermals and Animal Proteins, Parakeet Feathers (Budgerigar)
Also known as: PARAK FTHR
Use
This test is used to measure the level of IgE antibodies specific to parakeet feathers (budgerigar) to aid in the diagnosis of possible allergic reactions. It is commonly utilized in allergy assessment where exposure to parakeet feathers is suspected to be a contributing factor. Understanding the levels of specific IgE can help in clinical correlation with the patient's reported history of allergic symptoms.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided when collecting the specimen. Ensure that serum is separated from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection. Minimum volumes are required for valid testing.
Limitations
While increasing ranges are reflective of increasing concentrations of allergen-specific IgE, these concentrations may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results when challenged with a specific allergen. A negative test does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Correlation of allergy laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity is essential for accurate diagnosis.
