Allergen, Food, Halibut
Also known as: HALIBUT
Use
The Allergen, Food, Halibut test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to Halibut in the serum. Increasing concentrations generally suggest a higher probability of IgE-mediated hypersensitivity reactions to Halibut, although these may not always correlate with clinical symptoms or results from skin prick tests. Clinical interpretation of results should integrate contextual patient history and other diagnostic findings regarding reactivity to specific allergens.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure accurate test results. After serum collection, separate it from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours at most, and transfer it to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for best results. For submitting multiple allergen tests, consult detailed instructions from the ARUP website to ensure proper handling and volume requirements.
Limitations
Results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist use due to uncertain clinical relevance. The correlation between laboratory results and clinical allergy, including anaphylaxis or lack thereof, may not be absolute. A negative IgE test does not rule out a clinical allergy, and increasing IgE concentrations do not always indicate the severity of allergic reactions. The test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA, yet it is performed under CLIA certification for clinical purposes.
