Allergen, Food, Herring IgE
Also known as: HERRIN IGE
Use
The Allergen, Food, Herring IgE test is used to detect allergen-specific IgE antibodies to herring, which can help identify allergic reactions related to the ingestion of herring. The test provides quantitative results that can guide clinicians in understanding the level of sensitivity a patient may have to herring, which is critical for allergy management and patient care.
Special Instructions
Patient encounters should be minimized, and blood should be collected in a serum separator tube. After collection, serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours, to ensure sample integrity. Refer to the Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions for further guidance when multiple allergens are tested.
Limitations
IgE levels reported by this test may not directly correlate with clinical symptoms or severity of allergic reactions. It is essential to correlate test results with the patient's clinical history and in vivo reactivity. A negative result does not exclude the possibility of allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. The interpretive range extends from undetectable to very high concentrations, with intermediate levels often requiring specialist interpretation.
