Allergen, Food, Kidney Bean
Also known as: KIDNEYBEAN
Use
The Allergen, Food, Kidney Bean test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies to kidney beans in patient serum. It assists in diagnosing IgE mediated allergies to kidney beans, contributing to the clinical diagnosis of hay fever, asthma, or food allergies when correlated with the patient’s clinical history and reactivity to specific allergens. Allergic reactions can vary and the test results should be interpreted by specialists, especially since concentrations of IgE do not always correlate with the degree of clinical response.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided during specimen collection. It is essential to separate the serum from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection to ensure the integrity of the sample for testing.
Limitations
The test results for allergen-specific IgE concentrations may not always correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms or skin testing reactions. Concentrations of IgE antibodies in the 0.10-0.34 kU/L range should be interpreted with caution, as their clinical relevance is undetermined. The results must be integrated with clinical history and in vivo reactivity tests to ensure accurate diagnosis. A negative result does not rule out an allergy nor does it exclude the possibility of severe reactions like anaphylaxis.
