Kidney Bean
Use
The Kidney Bean test is used to measure the presence of specific IgE antibodies to kidney bean proteins in serum. This test can aid in the diagnosis of allergy to kidney beans, providing valuable information to healthcare providers to develop allergy management and treatment plans for patients with suspected food allergies.
Special Instructions
Specimens should be collected in a red-top or gel-barrier tube. The volume required for testing is 0.2 mL of serum. Turnaround time is usually between 3 to 5 days from specimen pickup. In cases where additional confirmatory testing is needed, this time frame may vary.
Limitations
Test results should be interpreted in the context of the overall clinical picture. High levels of specific IgE should be correlated with symptoms and clinical history as they do not definitively confirm an allergy without clinical presentation. Cross-reactivity with other legumes may occur. Stability of the serum sample extends to 14 days at room temperature or refrigerated, and 3 months frozen, with stable freeze/thaw cycles up to 3 times.
