Allergen, Food, Tilapia IgE
Also known as: TILAPIA
Use
The Allergen, Food, Tilapia IgE test is used to measure the level of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the patient's serum, which are associated with allergic reactions to tilapia. It helps in the diagnosis and management of allergy to foods by determining the presence of IgE antibodies specific to tilapia, providing clinical information that should be correlated with the patient's clinical history and potential in vivo reactivity to the allergen.
Special Instructions
This test is New York state approved. Patients should avoid multiple patient encounters prior to testing to ensure the accuracy of the results. Specimen collection and handling instructions should be followed closely, especially for multiple allergen orders.
Limitations
The test results, especially allergen levels between 0.10 to 0.34 kU/L, have clinical relevance that may be undetermined without specialist interpretation. Increasing allergen-specific IgE concentrations shown in the results do not always correlate with clinical symptoms or skin test reactivity to the allergen. A negative test result does not conclusively rule out a clinical allergy or severe allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis.
