Allergen, Food, Tuna
Also known as: TUNA
Use
The Allergen, Food, Tuna test measures the specific IgE antibodies to tuna in the patient's serum. This test is useful for confirming or ruling out allergic reactions to tuna, which can manifest as a range of symptoms from mild to severe allergic responses or even anaphylaxis. It is part of the diagnostic process for identifying food allergies, particularly in individuals who experience adverse reactions after consuming tuna.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure accuracy. Proper specimen collection and handling are critical; serum should be separated from the cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection. Please refer to the 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions' at www.aruplab.com/testing/resources/specimen for details on multiple allergen orders.
Limitations
Allergen-specific IgE concentrations might not correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms during an actual allergic reaction. The results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and should not be used as the sole diagnostic tool. False negatives may occur, meaning a negative test does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L should be considered with caution as their clinical relevance is undetermined.
