Allergen, Insects and Venom, Cockroach, American
Also known as: COCKROAAM
Use
This test is used to detect IgE antibodies specific to American cockroach allergens in a patient's serum. American cockroach is a common indoor allergen that may contribute to respiratory allergic diseases, such as asthma, allergic rhinitis, and atopic dermatitis. The test aids in the diagnosis of a suspected allergy to the American cockroach, helping clinicians tailor appropriate treatment and management plans for patients with allergen-specific respiratory symptoms.
Special Instructions
It is important to separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection to ensure accurate IgE measurements. Multiple encounters with patients should be avoided to prevent artifacts in measurement results. This test is performed in a CLIA certified laboratory for clinical purposes.
Limitations
The presence of serum IgE does not always correlate with the degree of clinical symptoms in response to allergen exposure. IgE levels between 0.10-0.34 kU/L should be interpreted with caution as the clinical relevance is undetermined. Negative results do not necessarily rule out an allergy or anaphylactic response. Clinical correlation with patient history and other diagnostic interventions is essential. This test was developed by ARUP Laboratories, and its performance characteristics have not been cleared or approved by the FDA, which may limit its use in certain jurisdictions.
