Allergen, Tree, Oak Red IgE
Also known as: OAK RED
Use
This test is used to measure the IgE antibodies specific to Oak Red tree allergens. It helps in diagnosing and managing allergic diseases, such as allergic rhinitis or asthma, caused by exposure to oak pollen. The quantitative results can assist healthcare providers in determining the severity of the allergic reaction and guide treatment decisions, including avoidance strategies or immunotherapy.
Special Instructions
The test requires proper specimen collection and handling to ensure accuracy. Serum should be separated from cells within 2 hours of collection. It is important to transfer the correct volume for each allergen ordered to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Since the test is not performed at ARUP, separate specimens are required if multiple tests are ordered. New York state approval facilitates testing for patients residing in that area.
Limitations
The performance characteristics of this test are determined by Eurofins Viracor and it has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Potential pre-analytical issues such as hemolysis, lipemia, or icterus can lead to rejection of specimens. Additionally, variations in specimen transport or storage conditions may affect results. The test results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other diagnostic procedures. False positives or negatives are possible due to cross-reactivity with other allergens or technical inaccuracies.
