Allergen, Tree, Palm/Queen Tree IgE
Also known as: PALM Q
Use
The test measures allergen-specific IgE levels to Tree, Palm/Queen Tree to help in the clinical assessment of allergies. It quantitatively evaluates the presence of allergen-specific IgE antibodies using a fluorescent enzyme immunoassay, which may support the diagnosis of allergic conditions. The results, however, need to be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens as these concentrations may not accurately predict the severity of allergic reactions or correlate with skin testing results.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters to prevent inconsistent results. Proper separation of serum from blood cells is crucial. For patients with multiple allergen orders, consult ARUP's 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions'.
Limitations
The test's quantitative results may not correspond with the severity of symptoms observed in vivo. Allergen-specific IgE concentrations between 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be evaluated by a specialist. Negative results do not rule out the presence of a clinical allergy or potential anaphylaxis. The test should be used as part of a broader assessment involving clinical history.
