Amphiphysin Antibody, IgG
Also known as: AMPHIPHYS
Use
The Amphiphysin Antibody, IgG test is used for detecting the presence of amphiphysin antibodies, which are associated with neurological conditions such as stiff-person syndrome and paraneoplastic neurological syndrome (PNS). It is useful in identifying the presence of small-cell lung cancer and breast tumors, providing valuable information for the diagnosis and management of these conditions.
Special Instructions
The test is specifically recommended for individuals with stiff-person syndrome, paraneoplastic encephalomyelitis, and sensory neuronopathy, and it may help in diagnosing occult tumors or monitoring tumor recurrence.
Limitations
The test has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration but is performed in a CLIA-certified laboratory for clinical purposes. It is effective in identifying amphiphysin antibodies present in about 5 percent of stiff-person syndrome patients, but its utility may vary across different paraneoplastic neurological conditions.
