Anti-sp100 Antibody, IgG
Also known as: SP100 AB
Use
Anti-sp100 IgG antibodies are used in the evaluation of individuals with suspected primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), particularly in cases where the patients test negative for anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA). These antibodies are of diagnostic relevance due to their relatively low sensitivity but excellent specificity for PBC. Despite this, a negative result does not rule out the disease, highlighting the antibodies' role in identifying a subset of patients with PBC who are AMA-negative.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
The Anti-sp100 Antibody, IgG test possesses low sensitivity, which means it may not detect all cases of PBC, particularly in patients without anti-sp100 antibodies. However, the specificity is high, indicating that positive results are strongly indicative of PBC. The test cannot replace AMA testing but complements it by assisting in diagnosing AMA-negative patients. Correct interpretation requires consideration of clinical findings and other diagnostic tests.
