Benzodiazepines, Urine Screen with Reflex to Quantitation
Also known as: BENZ RFX U
Use
This test is useful for general screening in scenarios involving compliance and potential abuse of benzodiazepines. The screen utilizes a reflex testing methodology, which is the preferred manner for ruling out benzodiazepine exposure. For any follow-up testing of a presumptive result, the Benzodiazepines, Urine Quantitative test should be used.
Special Instructions
If a specimen screens positive, confirmation and quantitation are reflexively performed using LC-MS/MS (ARUP test code 2008291), incurring additional charges. It should be noted that the test is intended strictly for medical purposes and is not valid for forensic use.
Limitations
The test is designed for medical purposes only and is not valid for forensic use. Presumptively negative results may indicate non-compliance, inappropriate timing of specimen collection with respect to drug administration, poor drug absorption, or diluted/adulterated urine. The concentration at which the test can detect a drug or metabolite varies within a drug class, and identification of specific drugs based on metabolites is challenging due to the presence of common metabolites across different benzodiazepines.
