Chlamydia Antibody Panel, IgM by IFA
Also known as: V CHLAM M
Use
The Chlamydia Antibody Panel, IgM by IFA is used to differentiate between Chlamydophila species, including C. psittaci, C. pneumoniae, and nine serotypes of C. trachomatis, excluding LGV strains. It is intended to identify early IgM response to infection and distinguish it from persistent low-level titers. Serological cross-reactions can occur, with C. pneumoniae-specific reactions potentially displaying titers twofold or greater compared to C. trachomatis or C. psittaci. This test provides limited diagnostic value for most oculogenital chlamydial infections.
Special Instructions
For optimal results, both acute and convalescent samples should be tested simultaneously at the same facility. If only an acute-phase sample is collected, a convalescent sample should be submitted within 25 days for paired testing. Properly mark specimens as 'acute' or 'convalescent.'
Limitations
The test is not FDA cleared or approved, and its performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories. The assay does not include LGV strains of C. trachomatis and is not suitable for diagnosing most oculogenital chlamydial infections. Seroconversion, a fourfold or greater increase in antibody titer between acute and convalescent sera, is considered strong evidence of recent infection. Interpret results carefully due to potential cross-reactivity between species.
