Coccidioides Antibodies, IgG by Immunoassay, Serum
Also known as: COCCI G
Use
Use this test to screen for the presence of coccidioidal IgG antibodies in serum. IgG antibody usually appears by the third week of infection and may persist for years. The ELISA test includes both tube precipitin (TP) and complement fixation (CF) antigens to improve detection accuracy. However, this test is not recommended as a standalone test and should ideally be used in conjunction with a comprehensive Coccidioides Antibodies Reflexive Panel, Serum (3001982) for better screening and confirmation.
Special Instructions
The specimen should be marked as 'acute' or 'convalescent', depending on the collection time. For parallel testing, convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimens to ensure accurate comparative analysis.
Limitations
This test is not recommended as a standalone assay, and its utility is best realized when used as part of a broader panel of tests for comprehensive assessment. The presence of IgG antibodies alone may not definitively indicate an active infection, as the IgG response could persist for years after an infection. Interfering substances such as hemolysis, icterus, or lipemia can also cause issues, making such specimens unacceptable.
