Use
The Fatty Acids Profile, Essential Serum or Plasma test aids in the identification of patients with essential fatty acid deficiency and helps in the evaluation of nutritional status and diet monitoring. It is particularly relevant for assessing long-term nutritional status and for patients, such as infants or those at risk for metabolic derangement, who are unable to fast.

Limitations
This test does not screen for disorders of peroxisomal biogenesis/function. The performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories, and it has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical findings.
