Helicobacter pylori by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: HPYLOR IHC
Use
Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium that can cause chronic inflammation in the stomach lining and is associated with the development of peptic ulcers and gastric cancer. The test detects the presence of Helicobacter pylori in tissue samples through immunohistochemical staining, allowing for the visualization of the bacterium under a microscope. This can aid in the diagnosis and management of infections and conditions related to Helicobacter pylori.
Special Instructions
Submit electronic request. If you do not have electronic ordering capability, use an ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number. For additional technical details, contact ARUP Client Services at (800) 522-2787. The brochure for ARUP's immunohistochemistry offerings can be found online.
Limitations
This test is performed as a technical service only, provided as a stain and return service. The test result is intended to aid in diagnosis but should be used in conjunction with clinical findings and other diagnostic approaches. Incorrect embedding or poorly preserved tissues may result in suboptimal staining and interpretation. Depleted specimens or those with non-representative tissue may lead to inconclusive results.
