High Molecular Weight Kininogen (HMWK), Activity
Also known as: HIGH MOLE
Use
This test is used to evaluate the cause of an isolated prolonged partial thromboplastin time (PTT) in a patient who is not currently bleeding. High Molecular Weight Kininogen (HMWK) plays a role in the intrinsic pathway of blood coagulation, and a deficiency can lead to a prolonged PTT without any clinical symptoms of bleeding.
Special Instructions
Do not draw from an arm with a heparin lock or heparinized catheter. The test is not performed at ARUP and must be sent to a non-ARUP laboratory. Each test requires a separate specimen submission if multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
The results of this test are labeled for research purposes only by the assay's manufacturer. The performance characteristics of this assay have not been established by the manufacturer, and the results should not be used for treatment or for diagnostic purposes without confirmation of the diagnosis by another medically established diagnostic product or procedure. The performance characteristics were determined by LabCorp.
