M Antigen Typing - Patient
Also known as: M AG
Use
The M Antigen Typing test is used to determine if the M (MNS1) antigen is expressed on the patient's red blood cells. This information is crucial for blood transfusions and managing conditions related to the M antigen expression. Additionally, ordering the N Antigen Typing can help determine if the patient is heterozygous or homozygous for the M antigen, which is valuable for further genetic and clinical interpretation.
Special Instructions
For accurate results, ensure M Antigen Typing - Patient is combined with N Antigen Typing - Patient (2007735) if you need to determine the zygosity of the antigen expression.
Limitations
The test does not provide comprehensive profiling of all possible antigens present on red blood cells. It only determines the expression of the M (MNS1) antigen. Results may be inconclusive if specimen handling instructions are not followed, such as preventing freezing of samples.
