Manganese, RBC
Also known as: MANG RBC
Use
This test is useful as a reasonable indicator of recent, active exposure to manganese and provides a modest indicator for distinguishing exposed from non-exposed individuals. It may also be useful in cases of long-term, low-dose manganese exposure. Monitoring potential accumulation with Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) is recommended using Manganese, Whole Blood.
Special Instructions
This test is performed by a non-ARUP laboratory, and separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered. Specimens for elemental testing should be collected in certified metal-free containers to avoid contamination, which could result in elevated results.
Limitations
Elevated results for elemental testing may be caused by environmental contamination at the time of specimen collection and should be interpreted accordingly. It is recommended that unexpected elevated results be verified by testing another specimen in a trace metal-free container.
