Maternal Serum Screening, Integrated, Specimen #2, Alpha Fetoprotein, hCG, Estriol, and Inhibin A
Also known as: MS INT2
Use
This test is a second-trimester screening for trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), trisomy 18, and open neural tube defects. It requires a first-trimester specimen to be submitted previously. The test calculates the risk of these conditions by analyzing serum markers from both the first and second trimesters, with or without first-trimester nuchal translucency measurements.
Special Instructions
Ensure specimen is drawn between 14 weeks and 24 weeks, 6 days of gestation. The recommended period for screening is between 16 to 18 weeks of gestation. This test requires a prior first trimester specimen submission (ARUP test code 3000147).
Limitations
This test was developed by ARUP Laboratories and its performance characteristics have been determined in a CLIA certified lab. It is not FDA cleared or approved. The test is not intended to be definitive; positive results should be followed by genetic counseling, level II fetal ultrasound, and possibly amniocentesis if clinically indicated.
