proBrain Natriuretic Peptide, NT
Also known as: PRO BNP
Use
The proBrain Natriuretic Peptide, NT test aids in the diagnosis, prognosis, and management of acute and chronic heart failure. It provides valuable information about the patient's heart function and can help determine the appropriate clinical management for heart failure and related cardiovascular conditions.
Special Instructions
Allow serum tube to sit for 15-20 minutes at room temperature for proper clot formation. Centrifuge and separate serum or plasma from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. The specimen should be stored and transported frozen.
Limitations
The test is not useful for differentiating causes of elevated proBNP levels other than heart failure. Certain medical conditions, such as renal failure, may also affect proBNP levels and should be considered while interpreting results. Specimens collected in containers other than specified may lead to rejection.
