Use
The Selenium, RBCs test is used for the assessment of selenium levels in the red blood cells to evaluate tissue stores. It is a relevant test for determining selenium deficiency or toxicity, offering insights into long-term selenium status in the patient.
Special Instructions
This test is performed at a non-ARUP laboratory. Separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
The test results may be affected by environmental contamination during specimen collection. Elevated selenium results should be verified by testing another sample collected in a certified trace metal-free container.
