Simian Virus 40 (SV-40) by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: SV40 IHC
Use
Simian Virus 40 (SV-40) by Immunohistochemistry is used to detect the presence of SV40 in tissue or cell samples. SV40 is a polyomavirus that has been shown to cause tumors in animals, and its detection is crucial for diagnostic purposes in clinical settings. This immunohistochemical staining technique aids in identifying the virus in formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue specimens or cell blocks, providing valuable information for clinical evaluations.
Special Instructions
Ordering requires submission of an electronic request or use of an ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (form #32978) with an ARUP client number for those without electronic ordering capability. Specimens must be transported in a cooled container during summer months to maintain stability. Paraffin blocks or slides should be protected from excessive heat and transported using a tissue transport kit available through ARUP.
Limitations
This test is performed as a technical service only, providing stain and return. It has been developed and performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories, but it has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The test is conducted in a CLIA-certified laboratory and is intended for clinical purposes. The limitations include its use solely for immunohistochemistry staining, and the results should be interpreted in the context of other clinical findings.
