Smad4 by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: SMAD4 IHC
Use
This test is used to identify the presence and extent of SMAD4 protein in tissue samples. SMAD4, also known as DPC4, is a tumor suppressor gene commonly mutated or deleted in pancreatic and colorectal carcinomas. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining is performed for pathological examination to assist in diagnosing and determining the prognosis of cancer. SMAD4 expression can provide insights into tumor progression and response to potential treatment protocols, making it an important tool in clinical decision-making.
Special Instructions
For immunohistochemistry orders, submit an electronic request or use the ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number if electronic ordering capability is not available. All specimens should be transported using the ARUP tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808), which can be ordered online through ARUP Connect™ or by contacting ARUP Client Services.
Limitations
This test is a laboratory developed test (LDT) and has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. It is intended for clinical purposes and its performance characteristics have been determined by ARUP Laboratories. As a stain and return (technical) service, it does not include interpretation of results. Specimens with non-representative tissue type or depleted specimens are unacceptable.
