Riskguard® Hereditary Cancer Test
Use
The Riskguard test is designed to uncover hereditary cancer risk by checking for genetic changes that may increase a patient’s risk for certain cancers. This hereditary cancer test is particularly significant for patients with a family history of cancer, newly diagnosed cancer patients, and those who have undergone cancer treatment. By analyzing 59 genes across 11 common cancer types, it provides crucial insights that can inform personalized treatment and risk-management plans, enhancing patient care strategies.
Special Instructions
The Riskguard test is available in two versions: in-office and at-home collection. It requires either a blood, saliva or buccal (cheek) swab sample. Exact Sciences provides specialized support for insurance billing, prior authorization, and offers flexible payment options for patients.
Limitations
While the Riskguard test can identify genetic predispositions associated with increased cancer risk across multiple common types, it does not predict when or if cancer will develop. Not all genetic changes will be detected, especially those outside of the specified 59-gene panel. Negative results do not rule out the possibility of hereditary cancer risk associated with genetic variants outside the test's scope.
