Anti-RNA Polymerase III (RDL)
Also known as: Anti-RNA Polymerase 3 Ab, Anti-RNAP III, RNA Polymerase III
Use
The detection of anti-RNAP III antibodies is useful in the diagnosis of SSc and for the identification of patients at risk for developing progressive skin thickening and renal crisis. The prevalence of IgG RNAP III antibodies is from 3 - 58% in SSc patients.
Special Instructions
Ensure serum is separated from cells within one hour of collection, and transfer to a plastic transport tube before shipping. Submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested to avoid delays in testing when multiple tests are ordered on frozen samples.
Limitations
This test may not detect all antibodies in cases of systemic sclerosis and might have cross-reactivity with other conditions. Interpretation should consider clinical presentation. Results outside the negative reference range do not definitively diagnose or exclude any disease without clinical correlation. Grossly hemolyzed, bacterial contamination, lipemic, icteric, or non-serum specimen types can affect results and may lead to rejection.
