C-Peptide, Two Specimens
Use
The C-Peptide, Two Specimens test is used to assess the c-peptide levels in the blood which might help evaluate the insulin production in patients. It involves drawing two separate specimens that measure the baseline c-peptide level and the level after administering a drug or treatment, thereby helping in the diagnosis and management of conditions like diabetes and insulinomas.
Special Instructions
This is a series panel that requires drawing multiple tubes at different time points. It is essential that there is an initial tube (baseline) followed by a treatment like a pill, shot, or glucola before collecting additional samples. Avoid using this panel if the patient is not receiving such treatment. Patients on high biotin supplements should stop taking it 72 hours prior to the test.
Limitations
The test may show interference when samples are taken from patients consuming high doses of biotin (Vitamin B7/B8). It is vital to inquire about biotin use before testing to avoid inaccurate results. Misuse of the panel by administering it without appropriate drug or treatment regimens can lead to erroneous interpretations.
