C-Reactive Protein (CRP), High Sensitivity (Cardiac Risk Assessment)
Also known as: Cardiac C-Reactive Protein (CRP), High-sensitivity CRP
Use
Measurement of CRP by high sensitivity CRP assays may add to the predictive value of other markers used to assess the risk of cardiovascular and peripheral vascular disease.2-8
Special Instructions
State the patient's sex on the test request form. Ensure proper labeling and handling of the specimen to avoid delays or rejection.
Limitations
CRP value increases are nonspecific and should not be interpreted as a standalone marker. Results must be contextualized with thorough clinical evaluation. Serial CRP analysis is not recommended for monitoring treatment effects due to variability.
