Cyclospora Smear, Stool
Also known as: Cyclospora cayetanensis, CLB Smear
Use
Detect Cyclospora
Special Instructions
Fecal specimens for parasitic examination should be collected before the initiation of antidiarrheal or antiparasitic therapy. The highest diagnostic yield is observed in patients who present with diarrhea upon hospital admission or within 72 hours of admission.
Limitations
The organisms are most readily demonstrated in diarrheal stools rather than formed stools. Prolonged specimen transport time, inappropriate storage conditions, or specimens stored in non-appropriate containers may lead to test rejection.
