Green Pea
Also known as: Green Pea
Use
The Green Pea test is designed to measure the level of specific IgE antibodies in the serum targeted towards green pea allergens. The presence and quantification of these antibodies provide vital information for diagnosing allergic reactions and sensitivities in patients who may experience symptoms upon exposure to green peas. This test assists healthcare providers in identifying specific allergens that may be responsible for allergic symptoms, thus aiding in allergen avoidance strategies and personalized patient care.
Special Instructions
Ensure that the serum sample is collected into a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube to maintain specimen integrity. Stability data indicates the sample remains viable for testing at room temperature for up to 14 days and can be refrigerated for the same duration. For longer storage needs, freezing the sample for up to 3 months is acceptable, with stability confirmed across three freeze-thaw cycles. Proper storage significantly affects the accuracy of test results, thus adherence to guidelines is crucial.
Limitations
This specific IgE test for green pea only indicates sensitization and not clinical symptoms of allergy. A positive result does not confirm clinical allergy, and not all individuals sensitized will experience symptoms. The test does not quantify the degree of clinical sensitivity, and cross-reactivity with similar proteins in other legumes can occur. Negative results do not completely rule out the presence of other types of allergy, such as non-IgE mediated allergies or delayed-type hypersensitivity. Clinical correlation with patient symptoms and history is necessary for accurate diagnosis and management.
