Allergen, Food, Green Bean (String) IgE
Also known as: STRINGBEAN
Use
The Allergen, Food, Green Bean (string) IgE test is used to quantify the level of IgE antibodies specific to green bean allergens in the patient's serum. This test helps in identifying allergic reactions to green beans. A positive result indicates sensitization to this allergen, and levels of IgE may reflect the degree of the allergic response. However, these IgE concentrations might not correlate directly with the severity of the allergic symptoms. The test results should be integrated with the patient's clinical history and other allergy testing methods for an accurate assessment.
Special Instructions
Ensure proper specimen collection by using a serum separator tube and promptly separating serum from cells within two hours of collection. Extended handling or exposure to ambient conditions should be avoided to maintain specimen integrity. Further instructions for collection, especially when multiple allergen tests are ordered, can be found in the laboratory's Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions.
Limitations
The test has limitations in predicting the clinical response solely based on IgE levels, as concentrations may not correlate with symptom severity or skin test results. Negative results do not exclude an allergy or anaphylaxis, and it is crucial to corroborate these findings with clinical history and other diagnostic methods to ascertain an allergy diagnosis.
