HLA Class II Antibody, Panel-reactive Antibody (PRA)
Also known as: HLA Antibody, PRA, HLA Class 1 Antibody, White Cell Antibody
Use
Solid organ transplantation
Special Instructions
Collect specimen prior to dialysis. Do not collect if the patient has recently received antithymocyte globulin, OKT3, or alemtuzumab (Campath®) as these drugs may cause false-positive results.
Limitations
The test is limited to the detection of antibodies of the IgG isotype. It does not detect IgM antibodies, which are usually indicative of autoantibodies. Therefore, the test may not identify all pertinent antibodies in the patient's serum that could affect transplant outcomes.
