Influenza A and B, Direct Immunoassay
Also known as: Flu A and B
Use
Confirm the diagnosis of influenza type A or type B infection. This is a differentiated test and, therefore, will distinguish influenza type A from influenza type B.
Special Instructions
Submit one specimen per test requested. Specify the exact specimen source/origin (e.g., nasopharynx). Indicate a specific test number on the request form. Ensure the expiration date of transport devices is checked and do not use expired devices.
Limitations
Because a negative rapid influenza antigen EIA test may not rule out influenza viral infection, further confirmatory testing using viral culture or nucleic acid amplification is recommended in cases where clinical signs and symptoms are consistent with influenza-like illness. Additionally, this confirmatory testing may assist in detecting other respiratory viruses that can produce similar clinical symptoms.
