Insulin, Seven Specimens
Use
The Insulin, Seven Specimens test is used to monitor insulin levels across multiple time intervals after a drug or other treatment is administered. This allows clinicians to assess how the body responds to treatment and how insulin levels fluctuate over time. It is particularly useful for diagnosing conditions related to insulin excess or deficiency and managing diabetes treatment.
Special Instructions
This test is a series panel requiring multiple tubes to be drawn at multiple time points. Ensure the patient has not consumed biotin supplements for at least 72 hours prior to specimen collection. Label each tube with patient name and time interval. Submit all collected specimens from the same patient simultaneously on one test request form.
Limitations
Interference may occur if the patient has consumed a high dose of biotin, which can affect test results. Ensure patients discontinue biotin usage at least 72 hours before the test. This test should not be performed without appropriate treatment intervention (e.g., administration of a drug or oral glucose tolerance) between baseline and subsequent samples.
