Isocyanates Profile
Use
Exposure to isocyanates is associated with various health issues, most notably asthma, chemical bronchitis, hypersensitive pneumonitis, chronic pulmonary disease, and contact dermatitis upon direct skin contact. Quantitative allergen-specific IgE testing via the Isocyanates Profile allows for the monitoring of workplace exposure to isocyanates through the measurement of acid isocyanate-specific IgE levels. Elevated specific IgE levels correlate with increased exposure to isocyanates, which are widely used in industrial processes such as the production of plastics, foams, and coatings.
Special Instructions
This test measures IgE levels against specific isocyanates, namely HDI, MDI, and TDI. It is crucial for assessing occupational exposure and related health risks. It is recommended for individuals suspected of having adverse reactions due to workplace exposure to isocyanates.
Limitations
The test detects IgE antibodies specific to isocyanates and is intended for the assessment of occupational exposure. It may not detect other forms of sensitivity or allergic responses. Additionally, the presence of IgE does not equate to clinical sensitivity, and results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic findings. False positives or negatives can occur and may be influenced by concurrent conditions or medications.
