Millet
Use
The Millet test measures specific IgE antibodies using the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® method. This test is crucial for individuals who may have allergic reactions to millet, as it helps identify sensitivities to this specific allergen. Sensitization to millet can present as part of a broader spectrum of allergy symptoms, and quantifying the level of specific IgE can aid clinicians in diagnosing and managing allergic diseases.
Special Instructions
Ensure the specimen is collected in a red-top or gel-barrier tube. The sample should be stable for 14 days at room temperature or refrigerated, and for 3 months if frozen. Freeze/thaw cycles should not exceed three. Turnaround time is between 3 to 5 days from specimen pickup. It is advisable to consult additional confirmatory or reflex tests based on initial results.
Limitations
The accuracy of this test may be affected by improper specimen handling or storage, and results should be interpreted considering the patient's background. Factors such as cross-reactivity with other allergens and individual variability in IgE response can lead to misinterpretation. Additional tests may be needed for comprehensive assessment in allergic individuals.
