Parasite Identification, Worm
Also known as: Gross Worm Identification
Use
Diagnose parasitic infestation; identify worms recovered from patient; eliminate possibility of parasite presence
Special Instructions
Worms or portions of them must be submitted in formalin. The ova and parasite vial (Para-Pak® pink) may also be used. Improper labeling or dry specimens will be rejected. Maintain the specimen at room temperature.
Limitations
The test relies on the presence of identifiable worm segments, which may not be present in all parasitic infections. Negative results do not rule out parasitic infestation and additional tests may be necessary for comprehensive evaluation. Turnaround time may vary based on the need for additional confirmatory or reflex testing.
