Plasminogen Antigen
Use
Measurement of plasminogen in plasma; may be useful in the distinction between type 1 and type 2 plasminogen deficiency.
Special Instructions
To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit a separate frozen specimen for each test requested. Citrated plasma samples should be collected by double centrifugation.
Limitations
Samples must be properly collected and handled to prevent any pre-analytical errors that can affect coagulation assays. The accuracy of the test can be compromised if the blood to anticoagulant ratio is not maintained correctly or if the plasma separation is not handled properly. Improper storage and multiple freeze-thaw cycles can also impact the test results. The test is not suitable for detection of other plasma proteins or coagulation factors.

Collection Instructions
Citrated plasma samples should be collected by double centrifugation. Blood should be collected in a blue-top tube containing 3.2% buffered sodium citrate. Evacuated collection tubes must be filled to completion to ensure a proper blood to anticoagulant ratio. The sample should be mixed immediately by gentle inversion at least six times. A discard tube is not required prior to collection of coagulation samples, except when using a winged blood collection device; in which case a discard tube should be used. Centrifuge for 10 minutes and carefully remove 2/3 of the plasma using a plastic transfer pipette, without disturbing the cells. Deliver to a plastic transport tube, cap, and recentrifuge for 10 minutes. Use a second plastic pipette to remove the plasma, staying clear of the platelets at the bottom of the tube. Transfer the plasma into a Labcorp PP transpak frozen purple tube with screw cap (Labcorp No. 49482). Freeze immediately and maintain frozen until tested.
Storage Instructions
Freeze; five freeze/thaw cycles are acceptable. Stable refrigerated for eight days.
