Protein Electrophoresis With Interpretation, Serum
Also known as: Interpretation, Protein Electrophoresis, Serum
Use
Evaluate disease categories as acute or chronic inflammation, liver disorder, hypogammaglobulinemia, possible monoclonal gammopathies, etc
Special Instructions
The test includes the evaluation of protein electrophoretic bands and quantitation of M-spike if present. Testing may include additional confirmatory or reflex tests as necessary.
Limitations
The test is specific for serum analysis and may reject samples affected by hemolysis or those using plasma instead of serum. Interpretive accuracy may depend on the presence and visibility of a monoclonal spike; additional tests like immunofixation and urine evaluation may be required for confirmation of monoclonal gammopathy.
