Rice
Use
The Rice IgE test is used to detect the presence of specific IgE antibodies to rice, which can indicate an allergic reaction. This test helps in diagnosing rice allergy in patients who may present with allergic symptoms upon exposure to rice. Understanding specific allergens can aid in the management and avoidance strategies for patient care.
Special Instructions
Use a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube for specimen collection. Store the collected specimen at room temperature if testing within 14 days, or refrigerate it if not. Ensure that no more than three freeze/thaw cycles occur to maintain specimen integrity.
Limitations
This test only detects specific IgE antibodies to rice and does not cover other potential allergens. It may not determine the severity of the allergy. False negatives or positives can occur, particularly if the patient has not been recently exposed to the allergen. IgE antibody presence alone does not confirm clinical allergy; symptoms and clinical history should be considered together.
