Swine Epithelium
Use
Swine epithelium testing is used for the detection of specific IgE antibodies against swine epithelial allergens. Allergens are proteins found in animal dander, saliva, or urine that can trigger allergic reactions in sensitized individuals. This test assists in allergy diagnosis and management, identifying individuals with potential allergic reactions to swine. It is particularly useful for individuals who may have occupational exposure to swine, such as those working in agriculture or veterinary fields.
Special Instructions
Ensure proper specimen collection by using a red-top or gel-barrier tube. Maintain stability by storing the sample at room temperature if processing delays occur. Freeze samples that cannot be processed within 14 days to preserve antibody integrity and avoid degradation through improper storage conditions.
Limitations
The test is limited to the detection of IgE antibodies specific to swine epithelium. Cross-reactivity with other animal dander allergens may occur, leading to potential false-positive results. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other allergy testing, as IgE presence alone does not confirm clinical hypersensitivity. Confirmatory testing or comprehensive allergy panels might be necessary for a complete assessment of allergic conditions.
