Tyrophagus
Use
The Tyrophagus test measures levels of specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to the Tyrophagus (storage mite) allergen. This test is clinically significant for diagnosing and monitoring allergic responses to this allergen, which can contribute to allergic rhinitis, asthma, and other allergic conditions. Elevated IgE levels may indicate sensitization or an active allergic reaction to Tyrophagus, providing useful information for guiding allergen avoidance strategies and treatment plans.
Special Instructions
This test requires the collection of a serum specimen using a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. It is important to follow proper specimen handling and storage instructions to ensure result accuracy.
Limitations
The Tyrophagus test is limited to detecting IgE antibodies specific to the Tyrophagus allergen. It does not assess for other types of antibodies or allergens. Cross-reactivity with other allergens is possible, and results should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history and symptoms. False positives can occur if the patient has been exposed to similar allergens or substances. Test results may be affected by improper specimen handling or storage, leading to inaccurate IgE quantification.
