Aid in the diagnosis of disease caused by CMV (eg, viral infections, pneumonia, and organ transplant-related disease)
Special Instructions
If a reflex test is performed, additional charges and CPT codes may apply. Submit one specimen per test requested and specify the exact specimen source, such as urine, on the test request form. Indicate a specific test number on the test request form.
Limitations
This culture is specifically for the isolation of cytomegalovirus; other viral agents may not be routinely detected. If a virus other than the specified one is recovered, identification will be carried out, and an additional charge will apply. The client will not be contacted for approval of this charge. Bacterial swab specimens, specimens received in grossly leaking transport containers, dry specimens, or those in expired transport media are examples of causes for rejection.
