3‑Hydroxy‑3‑Methylglutaryl‑Coenzyme‑A Reductase (HMGCR) Antibody (IgG)
Also known as: Statin myopathy, HMGCR Antibodies, Anti-HMG CoA Reductase antibodies, Myalgia, Autoimmune myopathy
Use
HMGCR antibody (IgG) is associated with necrotizing autoimmune myopathy (NAM), particularly in patients exposed to statin medications, and supports clinical diagnosis of NAM. Clinical correlation including muscle biopsy is recommended for confirmation.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Negative results do not exclude NAM; only approximately 35% of NAM cases are associated with HMGCR antibodies; remaining cases may be SRP‑positive or seronegative. Very rarely, HMGCR antibodies may be detected in diseases other than NAM. Clinical correlation and potentially muscle biopsy are advised.
