Allergy Panel 13, Stinging Insect Group
Also known as: ImmunoCAP®
Use
This panel tests for specific IgE antibodies to five different stinging insects—honey bee, paper wasp, white-faced hornet, yellow hornet, and yellow jacket—that are commonly associated with allergies. Allergen-specific serum IgE testing is considered comparable to skin testing and may be preferred in certain clinical situations. A positive result indicates sensitization but does not necessarily indicate clinical allergy; diagnosis should be made by a trained provider based on clinical evaluation. Limitations
A positive specific IgE result indicates sensitization to the allergen, but many sensitized individuals may not develop symptoms when exposed. Clinical correlation is required, and the test should not be used in isolation to diagnose allergy.
