Performing Lab
Alpha‑1‑Antitrypsin (AAT) Quantitation and Phenotype
Clinical Use
Order TestUse
This test provides both quantitative measurement of alpha‑1‑antitrypsin (AAT) protein concentration in serum and phenotypic determination of AAT variants via isoelectric focusing electrophoresis. It is used to evaluate for AAT deficiency, which can predispose patients to early-onset emphysema and liver dysfunction, and supports identification of common phenotypes such as S and Z alleles and less common variants.
