Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) detects chromosomal abnormalities—aneuploidy of chromosomes 3, 7, 17 and loss of 9p21—in urine specimens. It aids in the detection of bladder cancer in patients with hematuria and monitoring for recurrence, offering greater sensitivity than cytology alone. Results should be interpreted alongside cytology and cystoscopy findings.
